I know I did. Back in 2010 I was doing every little thing for my bootcamp. Marketing, training, program planning, calling clients who missed sessions, etc.
It annoyed me because all I really wanted to do was make fun workouts and help people get fitter. I didn't want to spend my weekends doing letter box drops or having to approach businesses cold to see if they would help promote my bootcamp.
I knew working hard was part of the deal that came with doing my own thing but at the same time it was really difficult staying motivated and inspired when I didn't have anyone to talk to and bounce ideas off.
So I worked in fits and bursts. Some weeks I got a lot done, other weeks I got nothing done. Most of the time I didn't even know if half of what I was doing was working.

My name is Kyle Wood and I’m the guy behind Bootcamp Ideas and The Trainers Tribe.

I have over 5 years experience as a PT and spent over 4 years of that running a bootcamp with 10 sessions a week and 80+ members in Melbourne, Australia. I've also taught workshops on bootcamp training to trainers in the UK and Australia.
In that time I've met dozens of successful trainers with kick-ass group fitness businesses from all around the world. And they have been kind enough to pull back the curtain and let me into their secrets on what is working and what isn't working.
I'm also a bit of a master at getting stuff done while also maintaining my sanity. All the time I was working full time training clients, I was also running my side business, Bootcamp Ideas. Last year alone I launched 3 books, moved overseas, traveled and worked at the same time for 4 months, ran workshops in Sydney, Melbourne and London, and launched a new business.
Talking with trainers I realised that a lot of them were also struggling with trying to juggle their business, family, money and time. They told me that they:
So I began brainstorming ideas early on. One idea was a membership site that provided business training and accountability for other trainers. It seemed like a crazy amount of work though so I wrote a book instead about how to start a bootcamp business.
That was really popular but a lot of trainers who bought it either never found time to read it properly or found they still needed more help carrying out the tasks inside.
Again the membership site idea popped up.
I tabled it again and launched the blog on The Trainers Tribe. The first thing we did was a free challenge for planning your year and goals. I knew that challenges with a deadline are an awesome way to get people to get something done. Over 270 people signed up but only 6 made it to the end of the 21-day challenge.
Something was missing still. Why weren't the challengers finishing the challenge?
I got on the phone to my friend Jonathan Fields - he's an expert on turning fear into brilliance - he looked through my site and said,
'Brother, why haven't you got a membership option?'
That same week a reader emailed me and asked if I have a membership option where she could get more ideas and content each week.
It looked like my initial instinct to create a membership site was right, but how to go about it?
I want to practice what I preach, which is that you can run a business (or businesses) while still finding time to travel, see family and friends, do things you love and keep yourself healthy. Running a membership site that allowed me to still do that while also providing amazing training seemed impossible.
And then last month, it clicked.
After picking up the phone and speaking to several readers about what they need help with, I was furiously (picture a mad scientist) trying to mock up some ideas of what a lesson plan would look like. It hit me.
What if I did the work for you? I mean I can't phyiscally do it for you but what if I took out the guesswork of running a business and just said, 'Do this thing, on this day. Keep doing these things and then at the end of the month, this other thing you wanted to accomplish would be done.'
No more spending hours trying to research the best method or what software to use. I've already done that for you!

Trainers are usually naturally good at one of two things.
1. They are really good at building community and engaging with their clients.
2. They are really good at planning, creating spreadsheets and smashing through to-do lists.
The problem is the Type 1 starts out strong but then after 12 months or less their bootcamp fizzles down to just a couple loyal clients. They never set up the systems for a sustainable business.
And the problem with Type 2 is that while they might get lots of new clients, those clients move on after just a couple of months because they never connect with the trainer, the other members and the business.

We all do this. And it gets us nowhere.
However, there is a solution. By limiting our focus to a few select projects and actually planning out what we need to do in advance, then can start making massive change in our business. People who build successful businesses don't do it overnight - even if it appears that way - it takes consistently chipping away at your projects and goals for months and years on end.
It's hard work - but it's so much easier with the support of others around you who are working hard too.

The observation that nothing new occurs unless the situation is changed is not a new one. So why is it that we do the same things over and over again in our business and just keep hoping that something will change?
I did this. When my marketing didn't work, instead of changing it I just tried to do more of the same. When clients stopped coming to my class, instead of picking up the phone and calling them, I just kept training those that were left. I was getting burnt out from all of the training I was doing, instead of getting smarter about the way I worked I just complained and was grumpy all of the time.
Looking back I probably did this because actually changing things was even harder than the misery of continuing along. It took some small uncomfortable steps and then some big uncomfortable steps to change things around, but ultimately it left me happier, with more clients that I loved and less of those I didn't.
A lot of the resources out there for trainers have some serious limitations. You could join a Facebook group and get awesome community but there isn't much in the way of quality training.
You could spend thousands on working with a coach, but then you only get access to their limited experiences and philosophies which don't necessarily apply to fitness training.
You could spend money on a live or online business course. It's great, you learn stuff but then you go home to put it into action and you either can't remember something or you hit a roadblock so you put it aside for a while and then it never gets looked at again.

Not right now but that is a planned update for May.
5 tasks a week seems like a lot. What if I fall behind?
There is a couple of ways you can tackle the work. You can either try to do your daily task Monday through Friday or you can put aside time on the weekend to do all 5 tasks.
If you do fall behind that's OK because as long as you remain a member you will have access to the content. 2 or 3 months a year will also be 'catch up' months where you can work on a challenge/course of your choice.
How much time will I need to dedicate to this?
You will need to be able to put aside 30-60 minutes for each task. I aim to keep them as simple and stripped back as possible but it still takes time to read the lesson and then work through the work.
I'm still not sure about you... why should I trust you?
Good question. I understand your hesitation.
